What this usually means

Food freezing in the fresh-food compartment means either that too much cold is arriving or that the appliance believes the compartment is warmer than it is. The first is usually a damper stuck open; the second is a sensor. Where in the compartment things freeze is the quickest way to tell them apart — freezing only near the vent is a distribution problem, freezing everywhere is a control problem.
