Refrigerator Diagnostic Visit

The visit that decides what the repair actually is, before any part is ordered.

What this work is

A diagnostic visit is not a look at the appliance, it is a sequence. The technician confirms what the appliance is doing rather than working from the description, separates a cooling fault from a delivery fault, and rules out the cheap causes before the expensive ones. Most visits end here with an answer and a price, and a good number end with a repair completed in the same hour.

How the visit goes

In order. Each step exists to avoid paying for the one after it.

  1. Confirm the complaint against the appliance rather than against the description of it.

  2. Establish whether cold is being made or only failing to arrive — that single question removes most of the list.

  3. Check the free causes first: settings, door closure, grille and coil, clearance, the room itself.

  4. Read what the appliance reports, where it reports anything, and treat it as a lead rather than a verdict.

  5. Price the repair and say plainly when the appliance is not worth repairing.

Questions

Is the diagnostic fee credited against the repair?
Ask when you book, and get the answer before the visit rather than after it. It is the single most common source of a disagreement about an invoice.
Can you tell me what it is over the phone?
We can usually narrow it to two or three possibilities from what you describe, and the problem pages on this site are written to help you do exactly that. Which of them it is takes an appliance in front of a technician.
