The three steps in the form are how you book. These four are what actually happens once a technician is standing in your kitchen.
Diagnose
The technician confirms what the appliance is doing rather than working from the description alone, and checks the cheap causes before the expensive ones.
Quote before any work
You are told what the repair is and what it costs before anything is authorised. If the answer is that the appliance is not worth repairing, you are told that too.
Parts
Common parts are carried. Anything model-specific is ordered against your model number, which is why having it ready shortens the whole process.
Repair and check
The repair is completed and the appliance is left running, with the fault confirmed gone rather than assumed gone.
Not every refrigerator
breaks the same way.
A built-in is serviced from the front, a column is two appliances, and a chest freezer in a cold garage may not be faulty at all. Find yours.

What a repair
usually costs.
A useful rule: weigh the repair against what the appliance would cost to replace in the same opening. On a freestanding unit that is a straightforward comparison. On a built-in or a column it is not, because the replacement has to match the cabinetry, and that is why sealed-system work on those types is still normally worth doing.

Houston combines long humid summers with the garage refrigerator as a standard household fixture, and the two together are hard on refrigeration. A garage unit in August is rejecting heat into air hotter than it was designed for; the same unit in a January cold snap may stop cycling altogether.

Most of these kitchens are in towers, so an appliance arrives and leaves through a service lift and a building schedule, and the installations are built-in and panel-ready far more often than freestanding. And many are second homes, which means a refrigerator can fail in May and be found in November.

New York is the hardest city in this list to get a refrigerator into and out of. Pre-war apartments have kitchens built before anyone imagined a 36-inch appliance, buildings restrict when service lifts can be used, and the units that fit are narrow columns and undercounter refrigeration installed with no clearance to spare.

Chicago's housing stock spans a century, and refrigeration follows it: a built-in column in a Gold Coast renovation, a freestanding unit in a bungalow kitchen, and a chest freezer in a basement that half the city has. Basements and unheated back porches are the local detail that matters most.
