What this work is

An ice maker needs a freezer cold enough, water arriving, and a signal that the bin has room. A cold freezer settles the first immediately, so the work is nearly always about the other two. In-refrigerator ice makers are modules and are replaced as units; standalone undercounter machines are proper appliances with a drain and a freezing plate, and they are descaled and serviced rather than swapped.

How the visit goes

In order. Each step exists to avoid paying for the one after it.

  1. Confirm the freezer temperature, because everything downstream assumes it.

  2. Follow the water: shut-off, filter, inlet valve, fill tube. A plug of ice in the tube is common and points back at a valve that is not closing cleanly.

  3. Check the bin arm or the optical sensor before condemning anything — a machine told the bin is full is working exactly as designed.

  4. On a standalone machine, descale the plate and clear the drain before replacing parts.

Usually not. Undersized ice is a fill problem — pressure, a restricted filter, or a valve not opening fully — rather than a freezing problem.
Are ice makers repaired or replaced?
