What this usually means

An interior light that has failed is usually a lamp or a door switch and nothing more. It matters for one reason: the light is the quickest way for anyone to tell whether the appliance is receiving power at all, so a dead light alongside a warm compartment is a different conversation from a dead light on an appliance that is cooling perfectly.

Five observations that narrow it

Answer these before anyone visits. Each one removes a whole branch of the diagnosis, and they cost nothing.

  1. Is the appliance still cooling normally?

  2. Does the display or control panel still work?

  3. Is the light dead in one compartment or in both?

  4. Is it an LED strip or a replaceable bulb?

  5. Does the light flicker, or is it completely out?

Check these before you book

  • Check whether the appliance is still cooling.
  • Press the door switch by hand and see whether the light responds.
  • Check whether the bulb is a replaceable type before ordering anything.
  • Note whether both compartments are affected.
  • Check the control panel still responds.
